Wall-to-wall carpeting: the worst clichés

The term wall-to-wall carpet refers to a textile floor made of natural or synthetic fibers and covering the entire surface of a room. On the market, you will find several types of wall-to-wall carpets characterized by different designs, colors and thicknesses, or made of different materials.
Wall-to-wall carpets are a very refined and an extremely practical cover for floors, consisting of a support, made of rubber latex, jute or other synthetic materials, in which are inserted different types of natural or synthetic yarns.
In general terms, wall-to-wall carpets are chosen as a piece of furniture, with a strong aesthetic personality, in addition to other benefits such as warmth, intimacy, ability to muffle noises, and sometimes even to cover an irremediably ruined floor with a limited investment. A high-quality wall-to-wall carpet is an excellent thermal and acoustic means of insulation.
Regardless of the mere aesthetic taste, in recent years some clichés on textile flooring have emerged.
Let’s see what they are about and if they are truthful.
“Textile flooring produces dust mites!”
This was a real situation around the Nineties, but today has been resolved thanks to the technological development that has allowed the production of fibers and fabrics able to counteract the problem. In addition, numerous scientific studies allow the release of European certifications guaranteeing the quality of the materials used in the creation of textile floorings.
“It’s difficult to clean and cleaning it takes a long time!”
Textile floorings are perhaps the most sophisticated textile products currently on the market. In this sense, being in most cases made of precious materials, wall-to-wall carpets require a certain care and attention. The ordinary maintenance of these products does not require much more time than the maintenance of different floors.
Once a year we recommend an extraordinary maintenance with the use of an injection and extraction machine (this operation should be possibly carried out with the help of professionals). Finally, if particular stains are present it is important to act immediately without letting too much time pass.
See our maintenance and cleaning sheet for further details.
“Textile flooring is unsafe for children because of harmful substances!”
The production of modern textile flooring is the result of numerous laboratory tests and cutting-edge machineries. In this sense, in recent years it has been possible to exclude any form of risk related to the emission of harmful substances due to rubbing and trampling of the fabric. Most of textile flooring by Besana Moquette guarantees a European A+ certification in terms of quality, and therefore excludes any risks for the health of kids.
“Textile flooring produces dust!”
Nothing could be more false.
Dust is present in every room of the house. All the time.
In this sense, textile flooring can even reduce the presence of dust of 80%. Technically, dust is retained by the material and can be easily eliminated through a frequent use of the carpet cleaner. On different floors, on the other hand, dust is raised in the air by simply walking on it.
“It is too difficult to choose the right textile flooring, what if I don’t like it?”
This is one of the most recurrent and funniest themes that afflict sales people. Surely, in terms of interior design, choosing the right type and color of wall-to-wall carpet is essential for the success of a project.
It is equally true that textile flooring in general is among the types of floorings providing the lowest cost of removal and replacement. Much better to make the wrong choice in terms of wall-to-wall carpet than tiles!
Therefore, as in any purchase, even with textile flooring it is important to have an adequate level of information before acting.
