WHAT ARE COOKIES? Cookies are small text files sent from the site to the subject’s computer (normally to the browser), where they are stored so they can then be sent back to the site when the same user next visits it. A cookie cannot access any other data from the user’s hard disk nor transmit computer viruses or acquire e-mail addresses. Each cookie is unique to the user's web browser. Some cookie functions may be assigned to other technologies. In this document, the use of the term “cookie” refers both to cookies, in the strictest sense of the word, as well as to all similar technology.
Via cookies, it is possible to store information on your preferences, like the pages you view or files downloaded from our site, or other similar actions taken while browsing our site.
FIRST- OR THIRD-PARTY COOKIES Cookies can be first party or third party, where “first party” refers to cookies developed by the site owner, while “third party” refers to cookies developed by third parties in relation to the site owner.
NATURE OF THE COOKIES As regards the nature of the cookies, there are various types:
Technical Cookies Technical cookies are those used for the sole purpose of “transmitting a communication on a digital communication network, or in the terms strictly necessary for the provision of a service by the company of information explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide this service” (cf. art. 122, comma 1, of the Code).
They are not used for any other purposes and are normally installed directly by the web site owner or manager. They
can be split into:
– Navigation or session cookies, which facilitate normal browsing and use of the web site (allowing, for example, for a purchase to be made or authentication to access restricted areas); they are essential for the site to work properly;
– Analytics cookies, equivalent to technical cookies where used directly by the site manager to gather information, in aggregate form, on the number of users and how they visit the site, in order to improve the site's performance;
– Functional cookies, which allow the user to browse according to a series of selected criteria (for example, language and products selected for purchase) in order to improve the service provided. No prior permission is required from the users to install these cookies (further information in the Cookie Management section below).
Profiling cookies Profiling cookies aim to create profiles of the user and are used to send advertising messages in line with the preferences shown by the user while browsing.
The subject’s permission is required for the use of profiling cookies. According to measure no. 229 of 8 May 2014, the user must be able to authorise or deny permission to install profiling cookies if they are present.
In the case of third-party cookies, the site has no direct control of the individual cookies and cannot control them (they can neither install them directly nor delete them). In any case, you can manage these cookies through your browser settings (follow the instructions given later in this document), or the sites specified in the “Cookie management” section.
The User is, therefore, invited to check on the third party site given below.

DURATION OF THE COOKIES The duration of the cookies is dictated by an expiry date (or a specific action like closing the browser) set at the time of installation. The cookies can be:
- Temporary (session cookies): these are used to store temporary information, allow for the actions carried out during a specific session to be linked, and are removed from the computer when the browser is closed;
- Permanent (persistent cookies): these are used to store information, for example, the name and access password, so that the user does not have to key them in again each time they visit a specific site. These are
stored on the computer even after the browser has been closed.
Session cookies are stored even after the connection to this web site has terminated. The digital systems used for this site use temporary and persistent cookies.
COOKIE MANAGEMENT You can disable cookies on web sites by downloading specific software such as Ghostery (https://www.ghostery.com) for your browser and disabling the use of individual cookies. Alternatively, you can activate “incognito browsing” mode – this is a function that allows you to browse without leaving any browsing data behind in the browser after you close it. This function only prevents browsing data being stored in the browser.
Alternatively, you can disable/delete cookies via your we browser’ settings.
